BCCI declares IPL 2025 retention rules, set to bring in new changes

After an IPL governing council meeting in Bengaluru on September 28, the BCCI unveiled the retention rules for the upcoming IPL 2025.
The changes are as follows:
Retentions-
Teams can retain 6 players from the existing squad. This can be either through retention or by using a Right to Match card.
The retentions/RTM's can have a maximum of 5 capped (Indian & Overseas) and maximum of 2 uncapped players.
Auction purse -
The auction purse for each team will be of 120 crores, which will be 20% more than last year.
Uncapped player rule -
This rule will be applicable to Indian players only. The rule states that if a has last played for India five years prior to the ongoing season or does not have a central contract with BCCI will be considered an uncapped player.
This rule will be beneficial especially to MS Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings.
A special rule for Foreign players -
An overseas player now will have to register for the mega auction. In case he doesn't register, he won't be able to register in the following year's players auction.
A player can also get banned for 2 years,if he pulls out of the competition after getting picked by a team.
Impact player rule-
The much talked about rule, the impact player rule is set to stay until 2027 season.
Match fee for players-
The BCCI has taken a big and historic decision regarding the match fees for the players. Now, the players will get an additional match fee of 7.5 Lakh per match along with their contracted amount.
