Bengaluru disaster: Team India bundled out for the lowest ever total in Asia
Team India

Team India chose to bat after winning the toss and what followed was an epic disaster. Men in blue were blown away by a Kiwi bowling masterclass on the 2nd day of the first test between India and New Zealand. The Kiwi bowlers, especially the seamers used the overcast condition and a damp, covered pitch to perfection to bowl out the Indian batting lineup for 46 runs, the third-lowest total for Team India in test cricket. This also became the lowest total ever in Asia in test cricket.

This poor performance from Team India came after their epic win against Bangladesh in Kanpur. The first day of the test was washed out without a ball being bowled due to persistent rain. The Indian openers, in the initial overs, were tested with top-quality seam bowling from the experienced Tim Southee. He produced an outstanding inswinger to dismantle the defense of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. And what followed after that dismissal was an epic disaster for the hosts. William O’Rourke and Matt Henry ran riot as they quickly shared 9 wickets between them. Virat Kohli along with four other Indian batters registered ducks in Bengaluru. Only Rishabh Pant scored valuable 20 runs for the team, which took the team total to 46. Henry, who has been a constant performer against India previously as well, took 5 wickets whereas O’Rourke claimed 4.

New Zealand, on the other hand, started their inning on a very positive note. None of the Indian seamers, including Jasprit Bumrah, posed any threat to the Kiwi openers. The experienced duo of Tom Latham and Devon Conway scored at a decent pace crossing India’s score comfortably. Chinaman Kuldeep Yadav struck for India with a brilliant ball to New Zealand’s captain Latham. The spin twins R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja too, spun their web claiming 1 wicket each before the stumps. How quickly the Indian bowlers can wrap New Zealand's first innings on Day 3 will play a crucial role if India wants to stay in the match.
