History: Rishabh Pant becomes the most expensive player ever in IPL, Shreyas Iyer reunites with Ricky Ponting
Indian Wicket-Keeper batsman Rishabh Pant created history by becoming the most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League. He was sold to Lucknow Super Giants at a staggering price of 27 crores during the ongoing IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Other marquee players including Shreyas Iyer, Jos Buttler, Mitchell Starc, etc. also found new teams for them.
Here’s how the Mega Auction went for these star players:
Shreyas Iyer-
The Mumbai-born batsman Shreyas Iyer was sold to Punjab Kings for a record-setting price of 26.75 crores. He in the process surpassed Mitchell Starc’s IPL 2024 price of 24.75 crores to become the second most expensive player in the IPL’s history. Iyer will now reunite with his former coach Ricky Ponting at PBKS.
Rishabh Pant-
The 27-year-old is now the most expensive player in the history of IPL, surpassing Shreyas Iyer. Lucknow Super Giants acquired his services for a staggering 27 crores. His bidding saw a bit of climax when Delhi Capitals were ready to use RTM on him for 20 crores. LSG then set a price of 27cr, which DC then rejected.
Mitchell Starc-
Delhi Capitals bought the most expensive player of the last auction for 11.75 crores. The tall fast bowler from Australia will now head to Arun Jaitley stadium, Delhi for the next cycle of the IPL.
KL Rahul-
The stylish Indian batter KL Rahul was bought by Delhi Capitals for 14 crores. He was released by LSG ahead of the mega auction. Rahul will be seen in Red and Blue of Delhi Capitals from next year’s IPL.
